Sketch the room before entering numbers
Draw the room shape and label every wall. Record wall-to-wall length and width at more than one position, then add doors, windows, steps, fireplaces, built-ins, radiators, switches, vents, and other fixed features.
- Mark the direction and arc of every door swing.
- Measure window and sill positions when furniture may sit below them.
- Photograph the space and keep all measurements in one unit system.
Measure the complete furniture footprint
Use the assembled product's maximum width, depth, and height. Include projecting handles, feet, cushions, curved backs, and packaging when delivery happens before unpacking. Manufacturer diagrams should take priority over a showroom label.
Check the delivery path separately
Measure the clear inside width and height of doors, halls, lifts, stair landings, and tight turns. The smallest opening is useful, but turns and diagonal movement mean a two-dimensional pass is not a delivery guarantee.
The Furniture Fit Calculator provides a preliminary room and opening check. Confirm difficult deliveries with the seller or delivery team.
